HOGGS HOLLOW

VENETIAN PLASTER

Venetian Plaster was used with striking effect throughout the project.  The lime-based plaster, containing marble dust, is applied in thin layers and then polished to give a lustrous sheen.

It was popularized in Venice by 16th century architect Andrea Palladio.  The prestigious marble-like finish was light in weight, lending itself to wooden buildings supported on columns in the mud.

Architect Carlo Scarpa re-introduced Venetian Plaster in the 20th century, and developed further techniques to yield finishes of even greater depth and brilliance.

Today, Lynn Appleby Design works with craftsmen to deliver a vast array of custom finishes that are unique to each project.

I found working with Lynn to be a real pleasure, from both a professional and personal perspective. She has a marvelous sense of space, understands and plays with light and takes particular care to incorporate the context within which the building is being built.

She listened to us, understood and delivered what we wanted. She has exquisite taste, and also provided beautifully creative options when required. She has a wonderful sense of style, is meticulous with her work and marries the various materials and textures better than anything I've seen in Architectural Digest."
